Petitioning Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council

NO to the Welwyn Hatfield bin tax

We want the Tory controlled Welwyn Hatfield Council to abandon plans to introduce a charge (up to £70 per year) for the collection of brown bins. Residents are rightly concerned about the effects this will have on the environment and recycling in the borough.

This is:
a) terrible for recycling levels that are crucial in keeping council tax low
b) ridiculous in a borough that's home to a 'Garden City' and lots of HMO''s
c) morally dubious given senior councillors have just given themselves huge pay-rises

They tell us that the proposal is out to consultation, but as we heard at a meeting of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, Tory Councillors have decided this is a done deal.

We're calling for this decision to be scrapped and for the views of the people of Welwyn Hatfield to not be ignored.
