Allotment tennants in Welwyn & Hatfield Borough have been asked by the Council to pay a 200% rent increase from April 2023.

Allotment rents are calculated per 25sq meter (Poll) and last year the cost was 12.50 per poll.  Next years rent is increasing to £37.50 per poll. This increase is unacceptable to all tennants. An increase of the current rate of inflation would be acceptable. 

At a time when everyone is struggling to pay bills and put food on the table and when there are shortages of fresh vegetables in the shops how can a council issue such a rent increase.
