Stand-alone status of Newport RFC

Given the perilous financial position of Newport Gwent Dragons (NGD), the precedent established elsewhere in Wales (Llanelli RFC, Cardiff RFC), and the fact that Newport RFC (NRFC) has imperilled itself by funding, managing and operating what has proved to be an unwanted and unloved compromise, we respectfully ask - as part of negotiations regarding the future of Rodney Parade - that NGD be rebranded to reflect NRFC's lone commitment to 'regionalism' in south-east Wales.

We ask that the WRU and Rodney Parade Ltd re-brand NGD as an outfit playing exclusively in black and amber, with a regional moniker that reflects the NRFC identity and the shared historical associations of south-east Wales e.g. Silurians, Bowmen, Steelers, Black and Ambers. We believe this crucial if commercial sponsorship is to be more effectively sought, crowds are to increase, and the enterprise placed on a more sustainable footing.

We ask that prior to any sale to the WRU, Rodney Parade Ltd commissions valuations of the value of the land colloquially known as the 'cabbage patch' (and the existing clubhouse) to establish whether a sale of those parcels might prove sufficient to offset declared debts.

We ask that shares held in trust by the WRU be gifted to NRFC, and that Rodney Parade voting shares be assigned to the Friends of Newport Trust, and other interested parties willing to adhere to the vision outlined above.
