Change WPCS registration rules for purebred animals with too much white
There is an issue with the Welsh pony and cob society only allowing animals with extensive white markings a section x passport, even though they are pure bred- excluding them from showing and breeding.
I believe that if an animal is dna tested and shown to be pure bred Welsh they should be allowed to enter the correct section, not section x of the stud book which means we are loosing bloodlines by excluding them and their offspring from being registered. These animals are homozygous for the splashed white gene, which is acceptable in heterozygous form, so it’s inevitable that you will get loudly expressed homozygous animals popping up. Putting them in section x excludes them from showing and breeding, which limits their value which if they are dna tested pure is totally unacceptable.
Part bred animals are allowed to have recorded breeding so why shouldn’t the pure bred ponies that have been tested. The amount of white they get from the sabino genes is not an issue so the rules should be the same from the splashed gene. If owners are going to the expense of dna testing them they should be allowed the correct passport.
It’s time to change the rules and update this!
