Welsh schools have had many Covid-19 cases which resulted in a lot of isolation. Me personally, missed almost 2 months of school from self isolation. I needed to self isolate because my teacher didn’t stick to 2m distance. After 2 weeks I had 1 day in school, a student tested positive and I needed to stay off a further 2 weeks. Then wales went into a small national lockdown. And by that time I had 1 day of school over a 2 month period.

Of course different schools around Wales will have different stories, but the risk of any teacher or student in my school self isolating is very high. However, I’d prefer not to self isolate over Christmas. Many families come together during this usually joyous occasion and this effects teachers too! Some teachers live alone and go to family for the holidays, therefore needing to self isolate would mean spending that time alone.

Despite so many preventions to keep everyone safe, it’s still highly dangerous. For example, we are required to wear face coverings while on the bus with other students. However, if any student tested positive on that bus I would need to self isolate, even if we were opposite ends of the bus both wearing face coverings.

its ridiculous!

Closing the schools earlier would make the chance of self isolating over the holidays a lot less. Even if we are required to do online school during that final week. As long as there is no contact with other students I can be assured that everyone will be safe over the holidays.

perhaps there are arguments against this, but I believe it is for the best to keep everyone safe during these dangerous and strange times.
