Often within school, children aren’t able to express themselves due to the strict dress code rules and regulations with piercings and hair colour and style. It makes it difficult to express yourself having to look the same as everyone else constantly. Schools preach “individuality” however constantly say your hair colour must be natural,piercings are to be kept to one stud and nails must be of appropriate length and natural colour. Within reason and keeping things safe i think these shouldn’t be the case and children should be able to express themselves in whatever way they decide! 

Piercings 

It makes sense that some piercings would go against the health and safety guidelines however multiple studs in one ear in comparison to one per ear doesn’t cause anymore judgement or harm. The school can still create discipline within the regulation by stating no dangly earings etc.

Jewellery

Taking jewellery off for lessons such as P.E for health and safety reasons is understandable however during the school day necklaces and bracelets that are reasonable for school shouldn’t be forbidden.

Hair colour

Unnatural Hair Colour allows a child to express themselves in a way that causes no harm and no effect on learning for them or other students. Not every child does want to dye their hair therefore this will not create judgement from other pupils and will not cause issues within the school. It is something that should be of the child’s parents choice and not the regulations

Some people find it difficult to express themselves however school shouldn’t make it frowned upon.It’s understandable that it’s the schools way of preparing a pupil for life uniform however that shouldn’t be the concern right now!Individuality should be preached and encouraged in today’s society. Times have changed and so has style. I am a pupil in year 10 who’d like to express myself within school along with others but this makes it hard.
