Change the funding allocation for short-term, personal support services for the homeless
This petition had 79 supporters
Cardiff University students are petitioning for the National Assembly for Wales to allocate more funding for projects that prevent homelessness - on a personal level. This means providing support services to tackle the underlying issues that are implicated in a person's re-admission to the streets, such as alcohol or drug abuse, or mental health illnesses.
Currently there is only a minimal amount of funding available for housing for the homeless - but this is not directly addressing the causes. Greater funding needs to be made available to provide flexible, short-term, personal support to those that need it. This support network is vital to prevent them from returning to the streets.
If this petition is successful and greater funds are allocated, local councils need to provide adequate services to fulfill the implementation of these projects. This petition will be sent to National Assembly for Wales members with a detailed letter addressing the issues.
