With covid regulations the Welsh government has categorised soft play centres as general indoor entertainment. This needs to be changed to wellbeing/hospitality.

Soft play centres are the unofficial source of support from most parents of young children. With covid, this has stopped alot of face to face health visitor visits, which can mean new parents can be very isolated and can only rely on social media or phone communication for support.

The Welsh government says that the soft play centres are not regulated and not clean. However every soft play centre I have visited during covid has been deep cleaned after each session and limits numbers due to a pre book system. This is more than your usual cafe which accepts walk ins.

Soft play is a safer place than a cafe to mean other parents without judgement or fear of their child screaming or even a place for a parents to have a break after being stuck in the house.

The children need play to learn skills. With this time of year, most are stuck indoors alone or with siblings.

With mental health believed to increase ten fold due to isolation from covid, I ask the Welsh government to rethink where soft play centres fit into easing restrictions.
