Corrections is responsible for the neglect of incarcerated LGBTQIA+ persons in NZ. Specifically, it is under their watch that multiple trans women are beaten, abused and raped by both prison staff and other inmates. Trans women are often housed in male prisons, putting them at higher risk of sexual assault. One currently incarcerated trans woman has been raped and sexually abused multiple times in prison, and for a while, was moved into solitary confinment, a treatment frequently used as punishment. She has since been released from solitary, but this is still an unacceptable thing to have occured.

Their unjust, lazy and cruel treatment of our trans sisters is an act of violence we cannot ignore. They have caused great harm to many members our community, and yet the Wellington Pride Festival Board has decided to allow them to march along side us in our Pride Parade.

They have done nothing to be proud of. They should not be celebrated. In our curent political situation, more than ever we need to take a stand against those who harm us.

Show the Pride Board that this is unacceptable, and demand that Corrections be barred from marching with us.
