The WCC, should provide a site for a night shelter for Homeless Women within the CBD.
As a class, we have chosen a social action in two parts. The first part is this petition to the Wellington City Council asking them to assist in the creation of a permanent Night Shelter for homeless women in the Central Wellington region as there is for men.
As Wellington High School senior students we are asking the Wellington City Council to create a site and ongoing support for the many homeless women in Wellington. Currently, 1 in 100 people in Wellington suffers some form of Homelessness, 1/3 of them are women. The lack of a Night Shelter for women while there is one for men, is a severe problem for the city.
Recently in a 12- page report by the Wellington City Council on homelessness in May 2017 only mentions women twice. This petition can also force the Council to face up to the fact that women are homeless as well, and need equal help.

The second part of our action is to take part in a fundraising event on October 13th run by 14 Hours Homeless. We hope to raise at least $500 https://givealittle.co.nz/fundraiser/whs4whs to support the Wellington Homeless Womens Trust www.whwt.kiwi
