Why this petition matters

Started by Matt Russell

New Zealand has some of the best Skateboarding talent in the world. It is now an olympic sport. Rain, wind and sun are unwanted factors in a person's want to skate. I'm currently teaching over a hundred children how to skate in many different types of school activities and at my classes at the Tawa roller skating rink. An indoor facility would make skateboarding available to anyone, anytime. Getting kids away from screens and bad influence is the key. Smiles on faces and sometimes some tears. They learn when you get knocked down, you get up again. Mental health is very important and skateboarding is an awesome tool to connect with at risk youth, and kids with special needs. We need an Olympic training facility also. If Tony Bruce and Mark Mccloud thought building a skatepark called the SK8PIT for Wellington in the late 80's was a necessity, when there was only a handful of us, surely 30 years later, with 100 times more skaters,  means we need one. And it's only getting more popular.  Skateboarding is awesome and transcends all age, religion, colour, and gender. Please help with getting NZ an amazing facility in Wellington by signing our petition.
