On January 20 of this year, the first case of Covid-19 in the United States was reported. On March 6, the first case in the state of Utah was found. And since then, dozens of events across America have been cancelled. Events that are impacting those least vulnerable to the disease. We petition you, those with the power to stop this, to allow us to continue our events.

According to the World-o-Meters live update on the Coronavirus, (see https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ the Corona Pandemic has had a total of just under 135,000 cases. Of these, nearly 69,000 have recovered, and fewer than 5,000 have died due to the disease. Those under the age of 60 years old have less than a 2% chance of dying, and those with no pre-exsisting conditions have less than a 1% chance of death.

With understanding in mind, that the intent of these shutdowns is to protect the most vulnerable, we need to take into account a few statistics. The main focus of this bill is to halt these life-stops in Utah, so the following will reflect such: the median age in Utah, according to the world population review is 30.3 years. infoplease.com states that only 11.3% of the populace is over the age of 60 in Utah. High school students - which the same source states account for 18.3% of the populace - who are least vulnerable to the disease, are being hit heavily by the unneccesary fear and decisions that this pandemic have created.

Students who have tournaments for a variety of things, including sports, debate, theatre, and music to name a few, are having them cancelled. Recent decision from Utah Governor Gary Herbert strongly discourages meeting in large groups. School boards, universities, and other major educational entities are cancelling, postponing, or changing the methods by which they deliver their education, as well as their events. Students across our state are having school dances cancelled. We want to have opprotunity, but we are being restricted.

And by what are we being restricted? Fear of a disease similar to the flu, one that has killed only 3x as many, while untreated and unvaccinated, than the flu, a completely vaccinated and treatable disease. Overpublication of this fear is hurting the American people, and hurting the future of our nation.

What's done is done, and while we hope for our lives to return to how they were before, we understand that uncancelling an event is hard. We just want to see an end to the cancellation of much of what helps us be us. What will help our nation's future be as bright as possible. And that is why we petition you to stop this halting. A disease like this should only stop those who it can hurt, not those who are nearly immune.
