Prom is a way to finish out the year strong. With our fellow students wanting to have the most popular dance in February it can be a little upsetting. I’m all for having a dance on February 29th as a special time of year, but instead of making that the highlight dance I say we push prom back to April, like most schools, and reserve the 29th for a different dance. 

I’m not alone in being upset about this change. For years and years schools have had Prom be towards the end so it acts as a celebration for sophomores, juniors, and seniors alike. But in February there’s still more than a quarter of the year left. What are we going to have to look forward to? On top of that February in Utah is not ideal weather for what most girls will be wearing. No one designed these dresses and shoes with the idea that the people wearing them would be trudging through snow and ice.  

If our student body officers still want a dance to have on the 29th, which like I said before I’m 100% all for, maybe find a theme and make it a girls choice dance or stag. Having that gap in between would still allow the pattern of having Prom be a guys choice dance but it will also fill that gap of time between our winter dance and prom. 

All I hope from this petition is for our Student Body Officers to see it and understand what the student body wants. Because personally I feel a good SBO isn't doing what they want, it's doing what the Student Body they represent wants.
