Upcoming facility changes necessitate shifts in staffing that call for a new principal for the 2022-23 school year at Weaver Elementary School. Given the constant change and unsteady nature of our world and its impact on the education system in the last 2 years, we would hope ISD622 leadership would be considerate of the impacts of another significant change in principal would have on the Weaver community.  

A principal sets the tone for the school community.  Ms. Schwartz came into this role during unprecedented times with COVID but also significant construction to our building.  She appeared not to flinch taking on this challenge.  Her warm confidence and smile put families at ease from the first day and has remained a consistent presence.  She is highly visible in all aspects of the school's day-to-day functioning.  Ms. Schwartz is a wonderful blend of "in charge" and approachable for parents and students. She takes time to listen to concerns from parents which builds instant rapport while holding her ground and getting the job done as the boss. 

Her communication is like none that we have previously experienced. Ms Schwartz is open to any and all feedback about making Weaver the best possible place for students to grow and thrive academically.  She has also brought new ideas to the table to create a more positive culture within the school.

The population of Weaver, with its high EL population, lower socioeconomic status, and all the compounding challenges students bring through the doors each day, requires an extraordinary leader.  This leader has to be willing to meet students and families where they are.  This leader has to be skilled enough in the elementary classroom to be able to effectively support the teachers and staff that pour their hearts into serving those before them.  Jen Schwartz is this leader.   

We know with absolute certainty that students learn only when they feel safe and are regulated. Students and families are worthy of consistency in who we are trusting with our children with each day.  In the ongoing challenges of the pandemic, students need their teachers to be their regulation and attachment partners in the classrooms and hallways more than ever.  Teachers will only be able to do this if they feel regulated and supported by their principal. 

Please 622 Leaders...with all the pain and struggle that educators and students have persevered through in recent school years, please carefully consider allowing the phenomenal work that Jen Schwartz and the Weaver staff are able to do together, to continue.  Please be creative in placing your administrators that will be displaced and let Weaver Elementary march on with the partnerships they have formed this year that can only flourish with more time and good work together.
