Wearing hoodies/pajamas in school (New Tech West)
We believe that students should be allowed to wear hoodies in school. Some teachers argue that wearing hoodies could potentially be a safety hazard. This is because a hood obscures part of a person’s face and identity making it harder to spot an intruder or to identify a student who has done something wrong. For this reason we can keep the hood part down and still wear the hoodies for our own personal reasons.
Some students wear hoodies because it helps them feel more comfortable in class. A hoodie can act as a security blanket in this way. In extreme cases, students with anxiety disorders or other mental health problems may find it necessary to wear a hoodie in order to focus or be productive throughout the school day!. Comfort leads to better focus, productivity, and learning.
There is a portion of students who wear hoodies without the intentions of being/acting disrespectfully. Some students wear hoodies because it helps them feel more comfortable in class. Students in the study said that being comfortable helped them feel at home in their classroom, which in turn helped them learn. “When I'm relaxed I'm more ready to learn.”
The importance of comfort for student success is clear as schools create spaces where students want to learn rather than spaces where they're forced to learn. With a more comfortable environment, students have the opportunity to grow and learn without the challenges of an uncomfortable environment.
