We were conditioned to primarily watch male sports rather than female sports. Why?
Why this petition matters
Did you know that in the NBA an average player makes 7.5million dollars? The average WNBA player makes about 200,000. This is due to the fact that female athletics don't get an equal amount of media coverage, because of large sports channels like ESPN. The amount of money professional teams get is based on their viewers, but male athletes get more viewers because they are given more media coverage to reel in viewers, while female athletes arents given the time of day. Think back to all of the commercials you've ever seen. How many of them have had male athletes, and how many of them have had female athletes. Social conditioning is caused by the media and the media we were surrounded by when we were growing up. During the Olympics women on the track were required to wear very small inappropriate shorts to the point where they looked to be undergarments. All around this is just disrespectful, and disgusting and women in sports deserve the right to be treated fairly. Sports Illustrated has shown women no respect in the industry and praises men. When you go to the website of Sports Illustrated the only thing that shows up is male athletes. Not a single female is represented. We need your help by signing this petition and showing that you agree and believe that women deserve equal pay and media coverage with men. A message from Morgan Gallant and Kate Carretero
