We Want Appropriate Justice
n incredible feeling of dread and disappointment does not begin to explain how I felt reading this today.
I know that my real thoughts and undeniable outrage/sadness cannot be captured in this one email.
We are promoting this idea that we have come so far by making these coasters and initiatives for nights out, but sexual assault and pedophelia is still not being taken nearly as seriously.
I think onlooking police officer, this statement is utterly embarrassing. As the author writes “ we will always take it incredibly seriously” whilst this particular offender has been published as guilty on multiple occasions and is still set free with another probation of which clearly did not suffice last time.
This is a downfall to our island. And we must do better. Children’s lives, families and all are being affected by this. This is an insult to survivors who have attended therapies and medications for years due to sexual offences. We cannot shut the door on this and move forward to road harmony. This is a much bigger and wider problem that is not nearly amended.
So many of our offenders have walked free only to offend and recommit, and as victims we cannot heal with feeling more adding to the list while we sit back helpless because our laws are simply not good enough.
