The undersigned, concerned citizens of Park Cites, Dallas County, respectfully request that the Highland Park School Board immediately rescind the mandate requiring students to wear masks. Healthy adults and children should not be forced - by the school district - to wear masks when the risk of infection is low and the benefit of wearing a mask is highly questionable. In light of Governor Abbott’s recent order rescinding the statewide mask mandate, we request that the wearing of masks also be made optional by the school district.  Every student, teacher and staff member has the right to voluntarily wear a mask, but forcing someone to wear a mask is an infringement on personal liberty.

Breathing through a mask for prolonged periods of time causes one to inhale too much CO2. Reducing children’s oxygen level puts a strain on their immune system and can be the cause of headaches/migraines among other things. They also significantly hinder the emotional and social development of students of all ages. 

Therefore, we the undersigned, petition the Highland Park Independent School Board to take a firm stance against mandatory face masks, striking down all policies mandating students to wear face masks.
