Why this petition matters

Tired of feeling like your representatives are not working for you? Let’s motivate them! I’m proposing term limits, just like that of the president. You have two terms, let’s see what you can do with it.

Career politicians get lazy and complacent and tend to gradually do just enough for the tax payers to write them a check through re-election. If we’re going to break this constant return to ‘business as usual’ and get things accomplished it’s not going to happen with the same people with the same ideas that haven’t changed seats in 40 years.

Interest has been lost in politics because our leaders are failing us. It’s time we’ve grown tired of this seemingly endless cycle. It’s difficult that we don’t become deaf after hearing the same voices and rhetoric with still little to nothing being accomplished.

We have been pushed and pulled into positions of polarized extremes too long. These old crows at the helm are more preoccupied with tearing each other down than helping their constituents up. They become so consumed by their egotism and partisanship that their top priority isn’t protecting the interests of the people, but protecting their legacy in the hope that when history is written they’ll be recognized for being on the right side of an issue.

From this, it seems only natural that we feel disenfranchised. After 20 uninterrupted terms it is inherent to question ‘does my vote really even matter?’ A question that no one eligible to vote in this country of ours should ever feel the need to ask.

Having a regular rotation of our congressional members will consistently bring through new members, a group with a strong history of coming in with the energy, motivation and desire to get things accomplished. They disrupt the status quo and their actions inspire and motivate their counterparts.

And these relics of time passed are holding us hostage to their old ways and away from progress. They have an exhausting presence in our lives, but do little to nothing to improve them. If we’re to have any hope of improving the system and how things operate we need to start weeding out the obstacles preventing us from growth!
