Music Education in our public schools has been declining rapidly since the early 1990's. School districts in Florida, Kansas and Arizona have all but eliminated their music programs, and in California, the percentage of kids with access to music education has declined more than 50 percent since 2003. But this trend is affecting all states. I strongly feel this is an injustice to our kids and that their education is being severely compromised. There are proven statistics that show that music education has a profound impact on a child's behavior and further promotes better math and science skills. There's always so much discourse about this issue and yet here we are! It's time we recognize this gross oversight in our educational system and make music education a mandatory requirement in all of our public schools, K-12.
