Why this petition matters

Started by Karen Allen

Working parents in Royalton/Bethel, VT need to have quality, affordable, safe, and consistent childcare options for our school-age children.  If we want working families to move/stay in this community, families need this basic need to be met.

Royalton, Vermont only has one licensed child care facility in town for school-age children, which is our One Planet after school program.  The service they provide is quality, affordable and safe but they need to expand the services that they provide to our community.  Services need to include school vacation weeks (February, April), extended care in the summer to include the month of August, consistent coverage on all 1/2 days, and coverage on in-service days.  These school supported expanded childcare services are common practice in small towns in Vermont where resources are limited.  We need our superintendent and the school board to support this initiative and make these opportunities available beginning in the 2022/2023 school year. I’m asking all Royalton/Bethel residents who support this initiative (whether you need childcare or not) to sign this petition. Please also consider attending the upcoming school board meeting on Tuesday, April, 19th at 6:00 pm, where this will be discussed. The meeting will take place at the Bethel Campus and via Google Meet. I will post the meeting link once it has been made public.
