We demand that West Midlands Police enforce the law & prosecute those who commit FGM

Female genital mutilation is a huge problem in the United Kingdom. For too long it has been ignored by the public, the government and the police. There is a large number of girls that have been let down by the system and it is a stain on us all that this happens so frequently without justice for the victims. There are reports of 85 cases in one London borough alone. Every hour in the UK another case of FGM is reported. Up until now there have been no convictions. The law has been in effect for 30 years. This is a national disgrace. It is unexceptable and we demand the law is up held and the police and govenment  protect each and every citizen from this barbaric act of mutilating little girls genitalia.

The failure of the police on this issue is highly evident to the public. West Midlands Police tweeted out yesterday that they openly do not enforce the law saying '...prosecuting / jailing the parents unlikely to benifit child.'

This disgusting admission to not upholding the law, gives every parent or person committing these barbaric acts free reign to do so. We demand that West Midlands Police enforce the law and prosecute those who commit this act. It is unbelievable that this petition has to be made to try and get the police to enforce the law and do their job of protecting the community. This is unexeptable and it is long overdue. We should be treating these women and girls with the same respect and dignity we expect for the greater population. This can not go unchallenged any longer. Join me today in demanding justice for the victims of FGM and in putting pressure on West Midlands Police to enforce the law, in hope this will inspire every police force in the country to follow.
