We condemn the motion introduced by MPP Malhi to declare 1984 riots as genocide

We, Canadians Hindus, condemn the motion introduced by MPP Harinder Malhi as this motion lacks merits and facts. Separate Khalistan movement was started in 1970s and became violent struggle later on. It is a known fact that vested political interests were behind it. Eventually Indian security forces had to respond to it with force as it became national security concern for India. Whatever happened after assassination of then Indian Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi in 1984 by her Sikh bodyguards was unfortunate but terming the voluntary response to her assassination as genocide is wrong in facts and far from the truth.
It seems that the facts have been misrepresented or haven't been researched fully to come to the conclusion. Even majority of Hindus condemn the killings but it was certainly not a genocide. We agree that the responsible people behind this action must be punished by law to the fullest extent and we have full faith in Indian government and administration. It is also a known fact that Khalistani supporters blew an Air India aircraft that took off Canadian soil and crashed into the Atlantic Ocean in 1985. Sadly, 329 innocent people (mostly Canadians) died as a result.
We feel that the hatred spread among communities in the name of religion to get political mileage must stop as the division based on religions is not healthy for Canadian society and our future generations. A human life is human life and it is more valuable than any religion. Whenever any innocent human life is lost, it is tragedy for humanity and we unconditionally condemn such crime committed by anyone irrespective of his/her religious affiliations.
