We call on Keir Starmer to debate Energy Nationalisation with Cat Hobbs of We Own It
Why this petition matters
Every time Keir Starmer uses Labour's significant platform to delegitimise any form of energy nationalisation, he blocks the path to the necessary steps to get us out of the energy crisis. Labour aren't in power, but they are providing cover for the Tories on this issue.
The arguments for bringing at least one energy provider into public ownership have been made very effectively, but Starmer is still making up excuses. Currently it's left to TV presenters to challenge him, and they don't have the knowledge to counteract his poor reasoning and untruths.
He needs to go head to head in a live debate with someone very well-informed. We suggest Cat Hobbs of the campaign group We Own it, who is an expert on this subject and a campaigner for bringing key public services into public ownership.
If Starmer is confident of his assertion that we 'we can't afford it', or that it is too expensive now due to Covid, he should be willing to go up against someone who can argue the opposite case.
LET'S HAVE A LIVE DEBATE ON WHETHER NATIONALISING ENERGY IS COST-EFFECTIVE, AFFORDABLE, BETTER FOR PEOPLE AND PLANET AND IF IT'S POSSIBLE.
Let's see if Starmer's arguments hold up against a worthy opponent.
Right now Starmer and Reeves are effectively aiding and abetting the Tory government, and making systemic change far harder. We need public ownership to avoid imminent climate disaster and fuel poverty and deaths this winter. This affects us all.
