As updated by the President of NJNU, the hospital is not budging. They are not addressing safe staffing, they are only offering a 2% wage increase per year, they are not providing a guarantee that our second year the wage increase would not be cancelled by health insurance premium increases.
Unfortunately, the perception is that we do not have a strong union and that we won’t stand up for our patients and our rights. The purpose of this petition, is to prove that we do support our union and our union is VERY strong.
There is a paper petition going around, and we encourage everyone to continue signing the paper petition as well. But since this is online and easier to get around, I hope this can show our union leadership and also the hospital leadership that we are indeed strong and prepared to stand up for our patient’s safety and our rights.
Safe staffing saves lives and we deserve to be paid reasonably. There is no excuse for our fellow RWJBarnabas nurses to make $10+ more an hour than us and for executives within the health system to make millions, but yet, they are refusing to budge on a an increase for the backbone of the organization: it’s nurses.
Along with signing this petition, let’s spread the word that we are perceived as weak and prove to them that we are strong by signing this online petition, signing the paper petition, showing up to negotiation meetings, union meeting, rallies, taking our breaks and lunches, and completing the short staffing documentation forms and providing them to union leadership.
We the undersigned, stand strong with the NJNU and support a fair contract that addresses safe staffing, adequate base-salary increases, a cap on the health care premium, no givebacks, along with other proposals formally made by our Union Leadership. Further, we want to avoid a strike and the hospital is backing us into a corner. To prevent this last resort option, we have to show strength in numbers. By signing this petition, we are standing UNITED and STRONG.
