Provide support for signage along Cedar River stating fishing regulations. The purpose is to educate recreational users and assist Wildlife Enforcement Officers. The Cedar River is a unique “urban” river that offers visitors a convenient oasis of outdoor recreation as it winds through a number of well-developed areas of King County, Washington. In addition to swimming, tubing, and wildlife viewing, it provides convenient sport fishing opportunities during its short summer fishing season. The Cedar River is a catch-and-release trout stream and is subject to “selective gear rules” that, among other things, prohibit bait, scented lures, and barbed hooks. Unfortunately, not all anglers abide the rules and evidence of bait fishing and “catch-and-kill” methods is pervasive. At the moment, there are no signs along the Cedar River explaining what regulations are in place. To combat illegal fishing, we are advocating for the installation of such signs in an effort to help to educate the public as to what forms of fishing are permitted. By cultivating an informed public, we can increase the number of individuals looking out for illegal fishing. Education is necessary to protecting the Cedar River and clearly visible, simple signage would go a long way towards achieving that goal. Efforts are already underway to secure approval for the project from various government officials. Please indicate your support for the effort by signing this petition! Photo courtesy of Jay Allyn
