Make Wayzata School District (MN) Unblock Scratch.mit.edu
Today Feb 1 2022 the Wayzata School District has blocked Scratch. Scratch is website that lets people get introduced to coding. You can use scratch to create games, artwork and overall just express yourself. Wayzata School District blocked Scratch because it is a “game” even thought it’s much more than that. People in this school district put months and months of work into Scratch. Wayzata School District may think that “students can work on their scratch projects at home on other devices.” But what they fail to realize is that students may not have any other devices to express themselves/code on except for the school issued iPad. It is extremely unfair that they ban Scratch for the whole district because a extremely small minority of people abuse scratch to play games. For example I put a ton of hours and months of work into coding/making a project called “Donut Dan” which I may never be able to see again. Scratch is not a site for games, it’s a site for learning, teaching and sharing your creations with a huge community that is completely family friendly! There also is another problem and that is the problem of that Elementary School(s)are doing a scratch unit which they may not be able to do anymore. Overall Scratch is a great learning tool and should not be blocked by Wayzata West School District.
