From the Meadow Road & Edgemont Crescent Neighborhood:
Located right off of Route 23, our small, but vibrant neighborhood consists of two streets: Meadow Road and Edgemont Crescent. Our community is long-standing, and is made up of retirees, young families, and medically housebound residents. We are seeking your support, as our homes are currently under threat of displacement and our community, of being destroyed.

A commercial building is seeking to overdevelop an area which is vulnerable to flooding, and is already zoned as residential. According to the current plan, the commercial property will be monstrously oversized, and will exist merely one foot away from our homes. Additionally, the proposed site will pose safety and healths concerns for our residents as the structure will be built on land which currently consists of solid rock. This means that frequent drilling and explosions are to be expected, and that a portion of route 23 will be closed off for a minimum of two years as work is being completed.

The proposed building would be used as a new location for Cerebral Palsy of North Jersey (CPNJ), which is currently located on Hamburg Turnpike. The nature of their facilities require the regular influx of transportation of staff and employees, in addition to the use of at least 20 minivans that will be used to transport students back and forth. In order to either enter or exit the property, vehicles would have to make use of Meadow Road, as it is the only path both in and out of the neighborhood. This would mean an influx of traffic on Route 23 during rush hours, and the virtual elimination of entrance and exits for emergency vehicles and current Meadow Road/ Edgemont Crescent residents during these hours.

We want to be clear -- what we are fighting against is not CPNJ, but the existence of a building that will cause detriment and harm to the current residents of our community. We are in full support of CPNJ’s cause and services. In fact, many of us in our community have spent our lives working for children and adults with special needs as physicians for developmental disabilities, nurses for hospice and disabilities, and owners of foundations for arts for those dealing with disability. We absolutely want to see those dealing with Cerebral Palsy flourish, and that is why we will be donating a portion of the money we fundraise to the cause.

This matter is currently facing the Wayne Board of Adjustments, and during this period of time, we need your help and support. As we currently stand, all our community has is our voices to stand up against a significantly-funded and highly-staffed team of people working to push forth their initiative.

Please help us save our neighborhood by signing our petition.
