Why this petition matters

Started by h h

The city of Waycross in Georgia has limited disabled accessibility in city and state buildings such as the schools, city hall and the library. Some of these buildings have ramps for entrance accessibility but when it comes to the doors, they are not automatic so entering the building is difficult for those with disabilities. Each building is unique in its lack of accessibility but all buildings that are public buildings, especially state/city building, should all be available to everyone.

We want Waycross to be accessible to everyone, including our disabled community.

Excluding anyone due to disability is discrimination us under violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA.) This act and law requires most business and facilities to provide reasonable access and accommodation for all disabled customers, clients, and members of the public. The ADA applies to almost all businesses that are open to the public, regardless of size.

Noting that most of these buildings in Waycross that are open to the public, especially official state and city buildings, were made before 1990, which is when the act passed, doesn't denote that accommodations can be met.
