“Plastic will be the main ingredient of all our grandchildren’s recipes”. This quote spoken by author Anthony T Hinks perfectly embodies the fear that I and thousands of other people have regarding plastic in our everyday lives. This plastic is single-use plastic that is used once and is then thrown away, where it is then eaten by numerous different animals and affects various ecosystems. To combat this massive issue, I believe that our community could work to ban one of the most common single-use plastics: plastic bags. Plastic bags take about 1,000 years to degrade, giving them ample time to get eaten by animals. Humans then can eat these animals and get negative side effects from the toxins from the plastic. Other progressive countries and states such as Canada and California have already banned plastic bags. I believe Waunakee is a very upstanding community that could join the large group of people already working to better the environment and the world!
