I am a senior at Waubonsie Valley High School and I also work around 20-30 hours after school every week. I have early dismissal, which is great because it gives me around 30 minutes to relax after school and take a break before I have to start getting ready for work at 3.

As a student who takes school very seriously, I am in multiple AP classes and I make sure that completing my school/homework is my #1 priority. Working these amount of hours on top of that is extremely stressful and I find myself having trouble completing my homework some days. However, working this amount every week is crucial for me to pay for my car insurance and other necessary expenses. A good solution to this problem is to switch two class periods next semester so that I can get out of school even earlier (double-early dismissal), and give myself more time after school to eat, relax, and start homework.

When I brought this issue up to my counselor and requested that I have a simple schedule change, he informed me that Waubonsie does not allow counselors to change schedules for double-early dismissal. I have many friends at Waubonsie who have double-early dismissal, because they made requests at the start of the year or they "got lucky", so this seems arbitrary to me.

All I request is that I switch my lunch and P.E classes next semester so that I can have more time after school. If you believe that denying students a simple schedule change is unfair, then please support my cause and sign this petition. Thank you
