Why this petition matters

Started by Amy Sain

Watkins Ford Road is one of the few rural roads remaining in our area.  The current zoning request for the proposed Atkins Farm subdivision is a very high density proposal of 219 homes on 7,000 square feet lots, which we think would negatively impact the community on multiple fronts.

Our petition asks that a low density zoning classification be applied to this plan, which would lessen impact and disadvantage to the area.

·  Watkins Ford Road is a major thoroughfare with >2,000 vehicles daily.

·  It is a poorly maintained road.

·  Intersections at High Point Road and Highway 66 are highly congested during certain times of the day.

·  There are numerous subdivisions under construction or planned on Watkins Ford Road, Teague Lane, Ogden School Road and Highway 66 totaling 4000+ homes and/or multi-family dwellings, either planned or already constructed.

·  We have stormwater runoff concerns, as this impacts Idlewild Road Branch and the Abbotts Creek Watershed, which are already subject to frequent flooding.
