matt shanahan started this petition to Waterford voters

By supporting this petition you are asking Deputy John Deasy TD (Fine Gael - Waterford) to honour his record of public service to the people of Waterford City and County and resign his Dail seat with immediate effect! By so doing, an alternative candidate can be chosen by constituency approval as part of upcoming Irish by-elections due in November 2019.

Deputy Deasy has declared himself not a candidate for the next general election but in truth he has not been available for Waterford constituency matters for a considerable time. This is depriving Waterford City and County of Government aligned representation at a time when we are faced with considerable social, economic and fiscal challenges. Indeed the issues of Brexit alone demand a Parlimentary aligned response from Waterford deputies in respect of policy advancement and this is presently not possible given Deputy Deasy's decision not to engage on such matters. There are many other pressing issues facing the people of the Waterford constituency, such as the resourcing of acute medical services, 24/7 cardiology, the full opening of the Dunmore Wing at UHW, the creation of the Technical University of the South East, new job creation and the development of Waterford Airport, to name but a few. At present local councillors and non aligned Government TDs are desperately trying to progress issues of the constituency and struggling to escalate their concerns particularly in the highly charged atmosphere between now and pending general election!  In order to press these matters the constituency needs a TD with an eye to re-election!

We who sign this petition acknowledge the significant record of service that Deputy Deasy has given to this constituency since his election in 2002. We know, being an experienced politician he fully understands the need for Waterford to press its national case now and that the constituency cannot continue to defer this issue for a considerable period extending to 8 months or even longer!

We ask Deputy Deasy to deliver one final gift of political service to his people, the constituents of Waterford County and City and resign his seat. We also ask his political party colleagues to support such a decision in the interests of Waterford and its people and to support delivering active political participation at by-election to be held in conjunction with other vacant seats presently pending!
