If school start times and schedules are delayed, then this would allow students to feel well rested and ready for a day of learning along with an increase of energy and participation levels. More time in the morning would result in less tardies during first period as students would have more time in the morning to get to school with ease. Preliminary studies have shown that the delaying of school start times has a significant effect in lowering the occurrence of crashes. Drowsy driving is at fault for an estimated amount of more than 6,000 fatal crashes and 71,000 injuries every year and is an issue that can be solved and truly help the community in undoubtable ways

In addition, An important point to remember is that adolescents' and teens' biological clocks are naturally geared toward sleeping later in the evenings and waking up later in the mornings and adolescents and teens need more sleep on a daily basis than adults, so normal school start times throw off the teens circadian rhythm, consequentially leaving them sleep deprived in school and causing anxiety, depression, obesity, and many more symptoms affecting mental health as well as physical health.

Studies show that even start times as late as 7:30 are too early and increasing research suggests that furthering school start tamest 8:30 or later are significantly more reasonable for catering to students' well-being. Not only does this improve the focus of the child, it gives them time to process the information around them in the classroom environment. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Sleep Foundation have recommended for years that high schools have later start times. In other words, schools are working against our kids’ biological needs, and possibly preventing them from doing their best. Sleep is important for physical and mental health at all age levels, but for developing minds and bodies, it is critical.
