Close All Schools in Washington State to combat spread of Coronavirus
Why this petition matters

In Washington State, there are 19 existing cases with 9 deaths already and many schools haven't closed down. Although the virus isn't very harmful to children, other viruses and sicknesses are known for spreading to others via school. I mean, come on, it's like a grand central station except for germs! In all seriousness, children come to school and go home. If the coronavirus were to spread through a school, it would also spread through the surrounding community. 51.8 million people have respiratory problems already in the United States, which is approximately 6.3 percent of the us population. In 2013, Washington had 1,051,694 students enrolled in a total of 2,370 schools, averaging 443 students per school. And that was in 2013. From 2006 to 2016, the population of Washington State increased 14.40% percent. Just imagine how many students now attend every school with the growth of Microsoft, Amazon, and to a lesser extent, Starbucks. All three of these companies have their headquarters located in Washington. This relates to the growth of the coronavirus because the more students in each school, the more damage the spread of the coronavirus in schools could do. This is because each student lives somewhere, right? The vast majority of cases in China — 87% — were in people ages 30 to 79, and the average age for someone to become a parent is 26. Most kids first go to elementary school when they are five. Can you put two and two together? The people of Washington need you! Thank you for your support!
