Remove constant police presence from Airgas strike

Since Teamsters Local 251 began a picket line at Airgas on Jefferson Boulevard, the police presence has been constant - sometimes with more than five officers sitting in their cars playing on their phones or waving traffic through the picket line. The Warwick Police presence is in addition to an on-site security detail hired by Airgas.
This unnecessary burden to the taxpayers is also chilling the workers' rights to peacefully assemble and conduct their strike and leafleting. Police have physically moved workers on strike out of the way of customers who were requesting information about the labor dispute and waved them into the facility. The Warwick Police have also arrested four workers from the line for arbitrary charges that are inherent to a strike, such as interfering with business and disorderly conduct.
The taxpayers of Warwick should not be funding the security detail for a multi-billion dollar corporation. We, the undersigned, ask that the police are moved to an on-call, as-needed basis for the remaining duration of the labor dispute.
