Warringah Council: Reject the Planning Proposal by Cromer Golf Club to re-zone the land west of Cromer Golf Club and north of Cromer Rd

Firstly, there would be a significant environmental impact. This land is part of the Narrabeen catchment area and the removal of the natural vegetation will likely result in additional siltation of the lagoon.
Secondly, the proposal would necessitate the destruction of 4.5ha of pristine native bush land directly abutting the Narrabeen catchment area. This has been identified by the State Government as an area of extreme beauty and special habitats.
Thirdly, the proposal would impact the ability of residents to either defend or evacuate their property in the event of a significant bushfire. With limited roads infrastructure, traffic congestion could result in putting lives in danger if residents are unable to evacuate.
The council has previously rejected such development proposals by Cromer Golf club with the most recent case occurring when the club partnered with Telstra and proposed to build a mobile phone base station on their surplus land. The base station's impact on the physical environment would have been less significant than the current proposal and therefore we urge you to reject the proposal with consideration to your own precedent and prior rulings.
We appreciate the golf club's attempt to raise revenue - however the negative impacts on both the environment and community must be held in the highest consideration.
