Let Them Play
Let Them Play
Why this petition matters
The Warren Consolidated Schools School Board has taken it upon themselves to decide that the students should not be able to play sports at this time citing "a very important fairness issue" as their main reason. They also claim that by allowing sports/clubs to continue there would be spacing and capacity issues.
The problem is other public schools in the area have found a way to operate without spacing and capacity issues proving it can be done. Also, WCS schools managed to have sports/clubs practice without incident before the decision to go remote/virtual, again proving it can be done.
As for fairness, everyone knows schools are not fair when it comes to funding, equipment, resources, etc with each sport. WCS has 3 high schools and none of these factors are equal when it comes to sports at any of the three. By stating allowing sports is not fair now, at this time, the board is opening up the "fairness"' argument to every aspect of sports. As a parent, I then demand fairness and equal funding for all sports. I demand fairness in getting the same amount of equipment. Every sport should get the same - down to the last penny.
Please join me in letting the school board know their decision to not allow the students to play sports/participate in clubs is unjust. There are options to allow them to play safely that are not being taken.
Each day that passes without being allowed to play seniors are losing more and more once in a lifetime memories/experiences. Athletes who are being considered for scholarships are not being able to be evaluated. Each day takes a toll on the students' mental health.
