National touring music festival Warped Tour is currently hosted mainly by venues that offer no vegan meal options. Instead, they offer hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers, and cheese pizza. Attendees are not allowed to bring in more than a small snack and there is no reentry, so for vegans, this means they may not have a meal for up to 10 hours.
According to surveys by the Vegetarian Resource Group (see sources below), about 1% of the population, and 2% of young people under 18, is vegan – that is 1 out of every 50 youths, which really adds up on a tour attended by tens of thousands of people. These numbers are probably even higher at Warped Tour, which features 3-4 nonprofit organizations and a host of different musicians who advocate a vegan diet. Even many people who are not strict vegetarians opt for veggie burgers when available because they are much healthier than meat, not to mention less cruel to animals.
Veggie dogs and burgers are widely available, and it is also easy to replace cheese pizzas with veggie ones (though vegan cheeses are also widely available). We are calling on the venues that host Warped Tour to start offering vegan options!
