Jared Leto’s Joker was controversial. But not all of it was bad talk. A lot of people actually enjoyed his charismatic and flamboyant take on the clown prince of crime. Personally, I only had one gripe with Leto and that was the admiration he showed towards Harley Quinn. However, with their abusive relationship being brought into Birds of Prey, I think Leto now deserves another chance if he is going to be written correctly.

Many people agree that the problem was the writing, not Leto’s performance. And the fact that DC wants to go forward with multiple new films starring Harley Quinn, it is only right for the Joker to play a big role in them. He is a huge part of Harley’s character arc and world. Without him it just would just feel wrong and watered down. I feel that in order to make something worthwhile and not a cash grab, Joker should be put in Harley’s films. Not as a cameo, but a lead role.

I also think that Jared Leto deserves this. Especially since a majority of his scenes were cut from the film and therefore a lot of the hard work he put into the role. Clearly this cannot be done for the upcoming Birds of Prey film as it has already been filmed. But for future installments it would be great if everyone at DC and WB considered it. After all, the Joker is the Joker. And he will sell regardless.
