Why this petition matters

Started by charles Hickie

Wandsworth council have blocked the lower part of Battersea High Street. There was no consultation or demand for them to do it.

It is damaging to local business & diverts the traffic to exit at Simpson Street onto Battersea Park Road. This is dangerous- 2 people died at this junction while Battersea High Street was closed last year.

It is important to consult the needs of the local community. Wandsworth Council will not do that in any transparent way. They never do.

We believe that the High Street should be reopened except for the Saturday Market as normal or a special event.

The council can end this nightmare whenever they choose. There is no reason for it. It is Tier 4 & mid winter - there are no locals drinking in the street because of the cold, neither in the pubs nor on the street

I can tolerate the council misusing community funds for an inept road design, or the suffering caused to residents and businesses. But to turn a blind eye to creating a traffic danger that has caused many accidents - it's intolerable.

We can only stop them with collective action to make our voices heard. Otherwise they will do what they want to us.
