Protect The Creamery of Blue Mountain Beach
Friends of Blue Mountain Beach Creamery,
We have asked Walton County to amend our Future Land Use District (a.k.a. “zoning”) to Neighborhood Commercial so we can properly insure our commercial building and business against catastrophic loss. Currently we are unable to do this as a “Grandfathered” use.
Due to a governmental re-zoning oversight years ago, our property is zoned Residential while all the other three (3) corner lots at the CR 83/30-A intersection (plus multiple other adjacent parcels) are zoned commercial.
Instead of fixing the oversight the County used a “Band-Aid” fix and “Grandfathered” our property so we could legally operate commercially without the proper commercial zoning.
Unfortunately, as a Grandfathered property, we are unable to obtain adequate commercial insurance and, in the event of a loss, could be prevented from rebuilding not only from the lack of insurance but from a Walton County ordinance prohibiting Grandfather structures from rebuilding. Of course this could possibly end what has become a very popular neighborhood-serving business among both vacationers and locals alike.
Please sign our petition and voice your approval of our request to fix our zoning problem and support the FLUM (future land use amendment to change our land use district permanently to Neighborhood Commercial. With your help, we will be assured the continued operation of the Blue Mountain Beach Creamery, for many years if not generations to come.
