Waltham Forest Parking - Keep 15 Minutes free parking in Waltham Forest (T7/16)

Waltham Forest Council plan to cut our 15 minutes free on-street parking to just 5 minutes and add 1 hour free parking between 1pm and 2pm only

To help us stop this take action now!

- People need longer than 5 minutes to do anything meaningful or to buy a parking ticket for a longer stay.

- Neighbouring boroughs, like Redbridge give their residents 30 minutes free parking and in Epping, Buckhurst Hill and Loughton you can park free for up to 2 hours at weekends.

- Our businesses benefit from the 15 minutes free parking as it encourages people to use local shops and businesses, like banks, chemists, dry cleaners, hardware stores, cafes and small supermarkets. We don’t want to see them fail.

- If shops close, your Council Tax could go up because of a fall in Business Rates paid to the Council.

- The Council are proposing to increase the price of parking from 80p to £1 for 30 minutes and from £1.35 to £1.70 for one hour, but will charge more for paper vouchers, £1.35 and £2.50 respectively.  So you will pay more if you don’t use the smartphone app, phone-to-pay or a Paypoint. We don’t think that is fair.

Waltham Forest Conservatives want people to have a longer period of free parking. We have proposed an alternative, where people could buy a “Parking Wheel” valid for three years for £5. This would show their arrival time, removing any confusion and giving 25 minutes free parking in total with the recently introduced 10 minute “grace” period.
