John Hardison started this petition to Walt Disney and

Han shot first! In the cantina scene from Star Wars (before it was "Episode IV: A New Hope), Han shoots the bounty hunter Greedo without him ever firing a shot. Han also doesn't talk to a CGI Jaba the Hut before boarding his ship, the Millennium Falcon. Since then, the movie's creator, George Lucas has changed the films with almost every release on VHS, DVD and Blu Ray.

Much like a "Director's Cut" these new editions are the way that Lucas wanted the films to be, but maybe didn't have the time, or the money, or didn't know how the story was going to turn out in a three-film arc. Some of that meant better visual effects and spending more money on scenes that he didn't have in 1977. A good example is the CGI enhanced explosions of planets and the Death Star. But it also means there have been changes that make the movies too politically correct for many, like changing Han Solo, the amoral smuggler we loved, into a good guy that never shoots first.

In fact, the famous cantina scene change has been tweaked no less than 5 times and has earned the reputation of being the most edited 10 seconds of film in history! The speed at which Han and Greedo fire and where the shots land are just two of the changes that have been fine-tuned over time.

It is very difficult to find a copy of the original Star Wars film as it was released in 1977; it seems George Lucas didn't favor fans being able to see the old version, he wanted things to be his way. Perhaps you still own the original films on VHS cassette and still have an operating VHS player? Or perhaps you have the 2006 DVD release that featured the original films as a bonus disc (they used a master from the laser disc version, so it doesn't look good on modern high definition televisions)? However, these copies still fetch $40 on eBay, proving there is a demand in the fan market!

But now Disney owns Star Wars, and Disney likes to make fans happy. What we want is for Disney to release the original theatrical versions of "Star Wars", "The Empire Strikes Back", and "Return of the Jedi" - The way many of us saw them for the first time in movie theaters decades ago. We believe strongly that Disney wants to make fans happy, and enjoys making a profit, and these versions would be yet another Star Wars thing for us to buy, which makes Disney money, and they like that, too.

Please sign our petition today. To be clear, we are asking Disney to take the original three Star Wars films (Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi) as they appeared when released in theaters (unaltered, not enhanced), remaster them, and release them on DVD and Blu Ray for purchase.
