Why this petition matters

Started by Griffin Bonacci

I never considered myself a “tree hugging” environmentalist. More or less just somebody who believes in sensible practices for each of us to take little steps to improve the planet we live upon. So when I recently found out that all of the remaining Walmart and Kroger stores in my area were no longer offering a bin in store to recycle the plastic bags they still use (by the millions daily), it seemed like common sense (and good environmental stewardship and responsibility) that these store chains, being some of the biggest consumers of plastic bags on the planet, should also offer on an ongoing basis, a way for people to recycle the single use bags after getting groceries home. If you are like me, after a couple of months you have a ton of these bags, with nothing tangible to do with them. They should be recycled.

Sadly, my local municipality will not recycle the bags and in fact, they clog up the sorting equipment. So without a way to recycle the bags, they sadly end up in the landfills by the millions. And when the wind picks up, are often carried through the air and even hundreds of miles away in some cases!

Walmart, Kroger, the right thing to do, is offer a responsible and easy place to recycle these bags. PLEASE BRING BACK THE RECYCLE BINS FOR YOUR PLASTIC BAGS, TO KEEP THEM FROM NEEDLESSLY ENDING UP IN THE LANDFILL.

This is just common sense policy.
