Gevin Gros started this petition to Walmart and

Trillions of plastic bags are made each year. 8 million metric tons of plastic end up on our oceans EACH year. WATER IS LIFE. The making of these bags also pollute OUR AIR. We NEED air & we NEED air to survive...but do you need plastics bag in order to survive too? The answer is NO. If we do not make the change who will? Do we not want children to be able to see blue skies and drink clean water? The use of plastic bags have a serious negative impact towards this...towards US.

PLASTIC BAGS ARE THE BANE OF A RECYCLERS JOB...which means they are NOT  considered recyclables. In fact most(almost all)recycling places aren’t even EQUIPPED for plastic bags. Things that can’t be recycled or most often dumped somewheres(the wind can also take this trash wherever it wants, like our waterways)and left there were wildlife can injure themselves or get sick from eating/being around such things OR they burn them which means all that pollution goes into our atmosphere. There are so many people that don’t even know what Microplastics are and how can deeply it can impact us with all of its affects.

As a Cajun growing up down the bayou in Louisiana I’ve always had a love for nature and have always been around water. This means I’ve seen the impact it’s has on our water supply, directly. I now live in Colorado & although they have much less water here, they still have just as much plastic. When you’re hiking all the way on top of a mountain & see dry old ripped up plastic bags stuck in each bush you look at...it reminds you what our planet is going to look like in the future if we don’t do something. I want to make whatever change I can so that my beautiful mountain top hikes remain beautiful, and clean. A clean blue sky with fresh air to breath. A clean waterfall to supply my town. A clean mountain to take my future children hiking.

So how can we fix this? There are MANY simple ways to be of help! The most important...ALWAYS keep a reusable bag on you! I keep a few bags inside the one I hold just just in case there’s a great deal in produce that day!! It’s always smart to keep some in your car as well as your day to day purse you carry around(they have very cute reusable bags that fold up into smaller pouches so it won’t take up much room at all). What happens when you don’t have a bag? Well, can you hold these items to your car? If possible do so! You might get a couple funny looks from people around you but I’d anything you just sparked up the idea I’m their heads like “hey, maybe I could’ve just carried this one item to my car too instead of using a single use plastic bag”. Some places also offer cardboard boxes & paper bags! You may have to ask but like I said by doing this other people around you will hopefully be inspired to make the change too and ditch single use plastic bags!!

BUT this is not enough. This is why I would like to start this petition to completely ban the use of single use plastic bags all across Colorado. This beautiful state deserves it. We as people on this planet deserve it. WE NEED TO BE THE CHANGE before it’s too late. As much as I would like to ban all of single plastic use not just plastic bags, in all of the states, this is just the first step to many steps that need to be taken & those steps need to be taken NOW.
