“At Walmart, we’re committed to using our size and scale for good. Not just for our customers, or even our associates, suppliers, and their families, but also for the people in our communities and around the world that we will never meet. We’re proud to say that the work we do makes a real difference on the real issues that matter to all of us, and drives meaningful change in a way that no other company can.” – Corporate Walmart website

Dear Walmart Directors,

On May 16, prison guards in Nicaragua assassinated political prisoner Eddy Montes. Not only was Eddy innocent, the Ortega government had already committed to release all political prisoners his regime has been holding hostage for almost a year. Eddy’s death has sparked a nationwide strike demanding the Ortega regime to respect constitutional rights and liberties, and the immediate release of the remaining political prisoners.

We respectfully ask that you allow your workers in Nicaragua (working in Pali, La Union and Walmart stores) to participate in the 1-day national strike tomorrow Thursday May 23rd 2019 to allow our country to move forward and past this political and economic crisis that we are facing.

We ask that you uphold your company’s Global Responsibility statement:

“At Walmart, we’re committed to using our size and scale for good. Not just for our customers, or even our associates, suppliers, and their families, but also for the people in our communities and around the world that we will never meet. We’re proud to say that the work we do makes a real difference on the real issues that matter to all of us, and drives meaningful change in a way that no other company can.” – Corporate Walmart website

Indeed, your size and scale CAN be used for good and we hope that, just as the Nicaraguan people defended the Walmart stores (Pali) from looting last year that you are able to support our country in tomorrow’s decisive strike.
