Eric Martin started this petition to Walmart and

It has been nearly impossible to find and secure yourself a new game console from PlayStation or Microsoft since the pandemic struck the world in 2020. While I personally believe they should've postponed the release until 2021, which we are in now, they went ahead and released their newest gadgets to the public: Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5. There has been one problem with this however: They did not have the means to satisfy everyone and some are still without a console. Worse is the fact scalpers, scam artists and other petty re-sellers, with their bots, have bought up mass stock in order to sell them back for higher prices and make money for themselves. Some will even post fakes or lure in unsuspecting buyers into wasting money (Myself included who lost nearly $800 to someone in Rhode Island just to get a PS5). While this is sales contributed to their creators, its not a great way to market the console when a majority of these consoles are in their hands and aren't activated/assigned to a player. Stores had to limit their pre-order inquiries, locations jumped ahead with pre-orders without word from the company and, even today, these consoles are costing folks like Sony more to manufacture them.

While this is harsh on everyone, I believe we are in a safer atmosphere now to have these consoles return to being purchasable in retail stores rather than being online only. Because they are locked to being online, despite keeping us safe from the spread of COVID, people have been glued unhealthily to their screens, phones and computers. They are fighting with either scalpers and their bots or other consumers to get a console for themself. It's not easier when retailers, like GameStop for example, cannot sell the console on its own and instead forces it in a bundle to make more. It is now early May and I believe Americans are vaccinated and well educated in following COVID-19 procedures that retail stores should have the console restocks be put back on their shelves. Like how Target and Walmart are keeping Pokemon trading cards out of the reach of those who would scoop them all up, they could follow the same means when it comes to these consoles and only allow one per person/family (You cannot buy them for someone else). I really think we are safe enough to purchase these in-store again. My only request is that the CDC (Center for Disease Control & Prevention) is willing to listen or comply with the men/women in charge elsewhere. We do not need more wasted hours stalking websites, pages crashing or online fights breaking out just for a video game console. Please bring freedom and equality back to the consumers/gamers who live in the United States: I think we are ready.

And while I do understand about part shortages and such, I think Sony/Microsoft should be okay with putting these back in store shelves for people to buy.  So, please, work with the CDC and get things back to normal.
