WALLINGFORD PROPERTY TAX FREEZE FOR SENIOR CITIZENS

WALLINGFORD PROPERTY TAX FREEZE FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
(April 27, 2021 Letter from Raymond Guidone to Mayor Dickinson and Wallingford Town Council)
I have been a resident and property owner of Wallingford for close to fifty years. I have contributed to this community in many ways including paying all taxes due on time. I am now seventy-five years old and on a fixed income. As you are aware, the town government has the discretion to consider policy changes under state and town programs for older adults. Under policy CGS 612-170 V to 12-170CC, administered by the state’s office of policy management legislative Commission on Aging, Wallingford has the option of adopting the following property tax limits:
1) Implementing a Property Tax Freeze for residents age 65 and older whose primary residence is Wallingford.
2) No repayment requirements, no repayment by heirs or estate ever.
3) No income earning limit.
4) Residing requirement: eligibility requires the resident to have continuously resided in Wallingford for a minimum of 10 years.
5) A lien is not placed on the property under this program.
6) This is not a deferment program; it is a Tax Freeze Program with no repayment, ever
7] We would continue to pay our current tax charges, with no increase, for life.
My fellow Wallingford residents and I would benefit greatly from such a program. We would not be forced into a less-than-attractive living arrangement for lack of funds. We should not be forced to move from our established communities, which we have supported for decades.
Sincerely,
Raymond T. Guidone
