Students are wearing hats and receiving disciplinary referrals for “safety reasons”, although not only does the school not have valid reason to hand out referrals to students wearing hats, the punishment they may receive goes from a talk with the child’s parents, up to a suspension. The school doesn’t allow children to wear hats because, “their cameras cannot see your face” and “it makes it hard to identify you”, although not only do students have to wear masks while on school grounds which covers the majority of your face, but hats are just one more identification object. Through a crowd of people, finding one person wearing a grey hat will be easier than finding them with blue jeans. Nobody is getting harmed by students wearing hats and those who wear them are being punished for no good reason. Help me change this for all students who wish to wear hats without the unnecessary discipline given by those in charge of the walled lake school district / Walled Lake Northern.
